1 Corinthians 10:23 (Amplified Bible)

23 All things are lawful [that is, morally legitimate, permissible], but not all things are beneficial or advantageous. All things are lawful, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life].

There is more to understanding the passage of scripture above. So I don’t desire to be misunderstood in its totality. I encourage you to read above and below for more understanding. At the same time, this is completely relevant to what I’m about to share.

When I think about the word “yes” my first thought is the phrase I’ve heard a lot lately “Give God your Yes.” That’s so important in our walk and fellowship with Him because it allows Him to accomplish what He desires in and through us while we are here on Earth. I also think of the movie “Yes Man.” In this movie, the main character enrolls in a personal development program that challenges him to say “yes” to everything. However, by the end of the movie, he realizes he should not have taken on every opportunity that came his way.

Similarly, we have to find the balance between what to say “yes” to and what to say “no” to in life. Some of us say “yes” to waaaay more than we should. But if we slow down and take an assessment of our lives, we may find some areas where adjustments can be made. This month (or whenever you read this) I encourage you to evaluate how much and what you say “yes” to and start saying “no” to the people, places, or things that need your “no”.

Full disclosure, I said no to extra calories. : )
