Do Something With It

One of my relatives has a very impressive garden. Every year they produce some of the most beautiful fruits and vegetables in large quantities. One day they brought me bags of spinach and kale. I had so much that I decided to blanch and freeze the kale while choosing to cook a new recipe with the spinach. The result is what you see in the cover image for this blog. While sharing this picture with other relatives, I received some positive feedback. After praising the relative who gave me the spinach, immediately this phrase came to mind “Do something with it.”

This phrase was a challenge not only for the natural realm of living but also for the spiritual realm of our lives. There is so much God has given to us to have and or use for a greater purpose while we’re here on this Earth. First and foremost He gave us His Son Jesus Christ for the salvation of our souls (John 3:16). God also has given us everything we need to live a life of godliness (II Peter 1:3), the ability to generate wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18), spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:1-11), and spiritual leaders to empower us to do the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:11–16). I just want to know, what are we doing with what God has given us from day to day? This leads me to the parable of the talents. Two of the people with talents went and doubled what they had. But the one with the least decided to bury theirs. (Matthew 25:14-30). It does not matter how much we have in comparison to the person next to us. What matters is how we manage what we have and what He may continue to give us.

As mentioned above, He empowers us spiritually, but there are also natural things in our possession that we can manage or mismanage. It could be material goods like a house or car, a business idea, a person or group of people we lead or take care of, wisdom and insight on specific topics, our health, etc. Every day we have the opportunity to be productive for the kingdom of God and His glory. He has entrusted us with so much.

Today, I want to encourage you all to be about our Father’s business. He wants you to do something with what you got! Even if it’s a bag of spinach, or other groceries in your house. Don’t let them go to waste. Recognize what you have that can positively change your life and the lives of those around you. Do something with it.
