What Are You Ful' Of?

A few years ago while fasting the Lord asked me this question, “What are you full (ful’) of?” I definitely had a specific idea of what He was bringing to my attention. I was resentful. Another way to look at it was that I was full of resentment. According to dictionary.com resentful means: “feeling or expressing bitterness or indignation at having been treated unfairly.” I was resentful towards some people in my life for various reasons that left me both uneasy and uncertain about the future of our relationships. This resentment was a result of how they negatively handled me. Admittedly, I felt very bitter and indignant (at that moment) but was completely unaware of how full I was.

As time went on I realized where this question was going. It was a question for not only me but also for me to ask others. What are you ful’ of?

ARE YOU:

Thankful, Grateful, Insightful, Prayerful, Hopeful, Successful, Faithful

Merciful, Delightful, Fruitful, Helpful, Beautiful, Tactful

OR:

Sinful, Painful, Harmful, Boastful, Prideful, Neglectful, Wasteful

Disrespectful, Hateful, Spiteful, Disdainful, Resentful, Regretful

I believe God revealed to me what I was full of so that I could address it. How you may ask? I needed to be emptied of the resentment and become filled with what God wanted it to be replaced with. Forgiveness, love, well…pretty much His Spirit. It didn’t mean that I couldn’t acknowledge what had happened to me. However, I didn’t need to continue walking around weighed down with the feelings I felt inside toward those who had mistreated me.

Today and each day God gives you life and the ability to self-reflect, I encourage you to take a moment and consider what you are ful’ of. If it is not positive or reflective of what God wants to be deposited in you, take the time to empty yourself. Alternatively, you can ask for His help to eliminate what’s inside of you so that you can be filled with the right feelings, emotions, mindset, attitude, beliefs, etc. Ultimately, these are reflected by way of His Spirit and the fruit He brings (see Galatians 5). If those things are already in you and have been suppressed, make room for them to bubble up again!

Philippians 1:9-11 (NLT)

9 I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. 10 For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. 11 May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ—for this will bring much glory and praise to God.
